Promote the programs, places and policies

The final component to a successful physical activity initiative?  Promote the programs, places and policies you’ve developed!

  • Communicate frequently with employees. Use the methods that work best for reaching your employees about other important matters. These communications can both remind employees of the opportunities to be active and build the shared perception that you encourage and support physical activity during the work day.
  •  Don’t underestimate the power of a good message at the right time. Signs that encourage employees to make active choices, when placed at the point of decision (such as signs placed by elevators that encourage taking the stairs), are powerful enough to change behavior.
  • Encourage your managers and supervisors to promote physical activity among their staff members. You can’t require leading by example, but you can recognize and appreciate those managers who do participate in programs and use available time and places to be active during the work day.
