Design for Health is a collaborative between the University of Minnesota, Cornell University, and the University of Colorado that serves to bridge the gap between the emerging research base on community design and healthy living and the everyday realities of local government planning. Please join us for a webinar on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, from 1-2:30 p.m. CT. Carissa Schively Slotterback, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, will give an overview and background of Design for Health and provide useful information on how to use the website and their resources.

Complete Streets has become law in Minnesota! On May 15, 2010, Governor Tim Pawlenty signed the Omnibus Transportation Bill (SF 2540), which included complete streets language passed by both the House and Senate in late April. The bill passed by wide margins: 58-3 in the Senate and 109-25 in the House.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota’s Center for Prevention has produced a new video showing how Red Pine Elementary School in Eagan, Minn., uses Safe Routes to School to support more kids walking or biking to school.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota’s Center for Prevention recently worked with the City of Hopkins, Minn., to produce a new video, “Building a Walkable, Bikeable Community,” that tells the story of how community leaders have made strategic decisions to create an activity-friendly city.
